I chose my profession because my favorite aunt was a hair stylist and salon owner in Massachusetts. I always admired her work and spent many summer vacations helping out at her salon.

I began my career as a full time cosmetologist in 1974. It was an exciting time! Licensed cosmetologists had just been given permission to “style” men’s hair, opening the door to “unisex” salons. Rollers and weekly salon dates were giving way to blow dryers and monthly appointments. It was a watershed era for salons, stylists, and their patrons alike.

My early mentors were people whose names would later become iconic, including Jheri Redding and Paula Kent Meehan (Redken), Horst Rechelbacher (Aveda), and Paul Mitchell. These visionaries pioneered not only the products we use but the very essence of the modern salon environment. Their forward thinking mindset had a great effect on me. I sought out local innovative salons to work in, always striving for quality-of- service. I have performed virtually every job there is to do in a salon.

In 1993 I received an A.A. degree from Oakton College, graduating as a President’s Scholar. I’ve run the Chicago Marathon twice. I volunteer weekly at New Hope Food Pantry in Norwood Park. I am a Pilates instructor in Park Ridge and Elk Grove Village. I also provide in-home hair service for people who cannot travel.

Ash and Willow is the place where my experience, talent and passion for my art have brought me to serve at my highest level yet.
